Join us for a special, late-winter musical treat, featuring extraordinary Canadian bassist, composer, and bandleader Carl Mayotte.
Carl reimagines jazz fusion by weaving Brazilian and Latin textures into his deep harmonic palette. As winner of the 2020‑21 Radio‑Canada Jazz Revelation award and 2022 Félix Award for Jazz Album of the Year (Escale), he has earned critical acclaim across Canada.
Carl’s show will feature music from his new album, Claude. Alongside his band’s signature energy and virtuosity, arrangements in this latest album have developed a more emotional and introspective dimension. The recordings were inspired by two significant life events: the fire that destroyed his apartment in 2023, and the death of his father in 2024. From these traumatic experiences emerged music that interweaves nostalgia and the joy of remembering, expressed in a revitalized musical language blending elements of contemporary jazz, indie pop, and current English fusion. The show will bring both a smile to your face and an ache to your heart.
Carl’s quintet includes Gabriel Cyr (guitar), Damien‑Jade Cyr (saxophones & flute), Francis Grégoire (keyboards) and Stéphane Chamberland (drums).
