For our last offerring in the fall, 2025 lineup, we are excited to present pianist Andrew Rasmussen co-leading a group along with Jake McIntyre-Paul on bass.
Andrew, the son of longtime Jazz Club volunteers Nellie and John Rasmussen, has wowed us with brief but spectacular performances at informal sessions in the past. We have been hoping to arrange a show featuring him on piano, and luckily a Christmas visit with his family here in Salmon Arm has given us the opportunity we were looking for.
Andrew’s outstanding jazz chops were honed through studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Berklee College of Music, and Capilano University (where he recieved his BA in Jazz Preformance). Recently, he has toured Canada, the US and Europe as a keyboard player for artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Wake Owl, Twin Bandit, Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean, and more. He is also in demand for his studio work, where he provides piano, production and sound design for the aforementioned artists, as well as others such as Siskiyou, Adrian Underhill, Andrew Hyatt, The Elwins, Aiko Tomi, and Panqueque. He lists his interests as jazz, hip hop, 80s/synthwave, new electropop/bedroom pop, and “whatever strange cool stuff I just heard yesterday”. Andrew is currently based in Toronto.
Unless you are very new to the local jazz scene, Jake McIntyre-Paul will be a familiar name. A Salmon Arm native, Jake is currently completing his 3rd year of jazz studies at Capilano University. He has led or contributed to countless memorable performances not only here in Salmon Arm but throughout the province, including shows with some of Canada’s most respected jazz musicians (Donnie Clark, Bill Coon, Mike Rud, Cory Weeds and others). Jake’s top-notch skills as a bassist are now branching out to include guitar, which has been one of his focusses in recent studies.
The rest of the group for this show has yet to announced, so please check back here for details or watch for the final billing in an upcoming newsletter. This show promises to put an exclamation mark on what has already been a truly great season. Please join us in welcoming our homegrown jazz masters back home for Christmas.
