ES:MO is the creative union of Elizabeth Shepherd and Michael Occhipinti—two visionary, award-winning artists who thrive on breaking musical boundaries. Their collaboration is fueled by a fearless embrace of diverse influences, blending genres with ease and curiosity. Whether it is jazz, funk, folk, or electronic textures, ES:MO follows the music that moves them, crafting a sound that’s as adventurous as it is soulful.
Michael’s expansive guitar artistry meets Elizabeth’s hauntingly beautiful vocals and expressive keyboard work in a pairing that’s both dynamic and deeply emotive. Their debut album, The Weight of Hope, earned a 2022 JUNO nomination and showcased their gift for reimagining classics by legends like Stevie Wonder, Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen, and Nick Drake. With a combined total of 17 JUNO nominations between them, their musical pedigree is undeniable. Their next release—a reinterpretation of Jason Isbell’s poignant “If We Were Vampires”—continues their tradition of honoring great songwriting through a fresh lens.
Coming in fall 2025, ES:MO’s second album, Sunshine in My Bones, marks a bold new chapter. Built from spontaneous jam sessions, quirky samples (yes, even washing machines), and layered loops of voice and guitar, the album is a celebration of their creative chemistry and deep friendship. The lyrics traverse themes from the chaos of modern warfare to whimsical love stories among tulips, all underscored by a longing for connection in an increasingly distant world. With guest drummers adding rhythmic flair, Elizabeth and Michael handle the rest, weaving a rich sonic tapestry that’s uniquely theirs.
Catch ES:MO on tour in 2025 as they bring Sunshine in My Bones to life on stage—an experience that promises to be as genre-defying and heartfelt as the music itself.
