We're thrilled to welcome an outstanding new artist to the Jazz Club stage for our October 9 performance. “Swingin’, singin’, and sparkling”, Vancouver-based trombonist and vocalist Casey Thomas-Burns brings infectious energy and compelling artistry to the Canadian jazz scene.
Drawing inspiration from artists Urbie Green, Sarah Vaughan, J.J. Johnson, and Bria Skonberg, Ms.Thomas-Burns leads her quartet — featuring Dean Thiessen (piano), Riley Poystila (bass), and Clement Pytel (drums) — in performances that blend the timeless elegance of the jazz Golden Age with the joyful spirit of New Orleans hot jazz.
Best known as the founder and director of 11-woman big band The Leading Ladies, she has been recognized by Juno-nominated bassist Jodi Proznick as “the future of arts leadership”. Whether on the bandstand or behind the baton, Ms.Thomas-Burns brings a distinctive blend of charisma, creativity, and classic swing to every stage she steps on.
